Medi-Cal

The federal Medicaid program is called Medi-Cal in California. Medi-Cal provides a variety of health coverage programs for disabled Californians.

Applicants may qualify for Medi-Cal in one or more eligibility categories. Some of these categories are described below.

Californians who qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) automatically qualify for no-cost Medi-Cal health coverage.

Based on income, you may qualify for no-cost Medi-Cal health coverage.

At somewhat higher income levels, you may qualify for Medi-Cal health coverage that requires cost sharing.

Californians with a diagnosis of breast or cervical cancer may qualify for cancer treatment coverage or no-cost Medi-Cal health coverage.

If you need personal assistance services at home or at work, you may qualify to have those costs covered.

Disabled workers can "buy in" to Medi-Cal coverage by paying a monthly premium.
